Our Background

JOSUDDI (Joint Sustainable Development Disability Initiative) was founded in 2022 in Uganda by Persons with Disabilities who decided to organize around shared lived experience.

What started as a small association in Kampala has grown into a network serving over 1,000 beneficiaries through 30+ Village Savings and Loan Associations in Kampala, Nabweru, and Wakiso.

Community Rooted Beginning

JOSUDDI started from lived experiences of Persons with Disabilities who organized through an economic empowerment journey and built a shared path forward.

From Association to Movement

What began as a small association in Kampala grew into active, neighborhood-level participation across Nabweru and Wakiso.

Through VSLAs, capacity building, and advocacy, the initiative now supports long-term independence and dignity for thousands.

Core Values

Inclusion

We are committed to creating an environment where people living with disabilities are fully included, respected, and given equal opportunities to participate in all aspects of society.

Empowerment

We believe in the power of community and partnerships, working together with members, stakeholders, and society to create meaningful and inclusive change.

Community

We believe in the power of community and partnerships, working together with members, stakeholders, and society to create meaningful and inclusive change.

Self Reliance

We believe PWDs are not recipients of charity, they are agents of their own change. Everything we do builds independence, not dependency.

Dignity

Every person with a disability deserves to be seen, valued, and included but not pitied. We measure our success by how many PWDs are happy and smiling

Sustainability

We promote long-term, community-driven initiatives such as savings groups and entrepreneurship that create lasting impact beyond short-term support.

Why This Work Matters

Persons with disabilities in Uganda are disproportionately affected by poverty, exclusion from education and employment, and unequal access to healthcare.

JOSUDDI focuses on practical systems of self-reliance so communities can build long-term resilience with dignity and agency.
